Yorktown

Yorktown discovered. In the fall of 1781 on the shores of Yorktown, the United States of America secured its independence from England. The decisive moment occurred on October 19 when General Charles Lord Cornwallis surrendered to General George Washington. The layout of Yorktown has changed much since its establishment in 1691 but its importance in the history of America remains.
